The applicable part of red clover is the flower top. The flower top contains isoflavones and can be effective when used orally for prevention of osteoporosis. Some studies indicate that therapeutic doses can significantly reduce the loss of spinal bone mineral density and bone mineral content in some patients. When used for benign prostatic hyperplasia there has been some relief in the quality of life. In postmenopausal women with low endogenous estrogens, isoflavones are likely to act as weak estrogens in preventing osteoporosis. The beta estrogen receptor predominates in the heart, vasculature, bone, and bladder, which may account for some of red clovers beneficial effects in these areas. Red Clover isoflavones might be involved in modulating lipid metabolism and cholesterol levels, which may have a role in preventing cardiovascular disease and improve the systemic arterial system. Red Clover isoflavones might have anticarcinogenic activity due to both estrogenic and nonestrogenic mechanisms. There have been evidence that high doses of red clover can increase bleeding due to its anticoagulant effects. We have kept the dose lower to preclude a bleeding problem in the normal person.
Red Clover is thought to act as an antispasmodic, expectorant, astringent, antibiotic, appetite suppressant, blood purifier, and relaxant along with being good for inflamed lungs, inflammatory bowel disorders, kidney problems, liver disease, skin disorders and weakened immune system.
