Gotu Kola (centella asiatica) is an herb that has a positive effect on the circulatory system by improving blood flow and strengthening veins and capillaries. In Europe and Indonesia, Gotu Kola is used to enhance wound healing because of its ability to stimulate the growth of new tissue.
Gotu Kola contains molecules that are called triterpines (especially asiaticoside), which appear to enhance the formation of collagen in bones, cartilage, and connective tissue. They also promote healthy blood vessels and help produce neurotransmitters (the chemical messengers in the brain).
Its effect on connective tissue promotes healthy development and inhibiting the formation of hardened areas and makes it important for treating many skin conditions. It can be therapeutic for burns, keloids (overgrown scar tissue), and wounds (including surgical incisions and skin ulcers). Gotu Kola strengthen cell walls of blood vessels, improves blood flow and aids the healing process.
Current research shows that this herb boosts memory, improves learning capabilites and can possibly reverse some memory loss associated with Alzheimer's disease. One study showed that 30 developmentally disabled children were found to have significantly better concentration an attention levels after taking Gotu Kola for 12 weeks.
