Garlic contains aromatic compounds that lower blood pressure, heart rate and blood cholesterol while increasing coronary circulation. These compounds also fight infection (caused by bacteria, fungi, viruses and parasites), reduce muscle spasms, increase immune response, and increase the production of digestive fluids.
Garlic seems to have immune system stimulant activity in both humoral and cellular areas. This action causes T-cell proliferation, restores suppressed antibody responses, and stimuates macrophage cyotoxicity on tumor cells.
Garlic has been used to lower cholesterol levels, reduce blood clotting, fight infection, boost immuntiy, prevent some cancers, produce a slight drop in blood pressure, combat fungal infections, treat colds, coughs, asthma, coronary, heart disease, hypertension, atherosclerosis, infections, inflammatory skin conditions and hemorrhoids.
