E - Vitamin (Tocopherol)

Vitamin E is a generic term for a group of related compounds called tocopherols. Its reputation comes from its disease-fighting potential as an antioxidant that destroys or neutralizes free radicals and unstable oxygen molecules that cause damage to cells. It also helps to form normal red blood cells, muscles, and safeguards cell membranes and tissues.

Vitamin E may play a role in preventing cancer. Research to date suggests that vitamin E can help protect against the risks of cardiovascular disease, including heart attack and stroke by reducing the harmful effects of LDL ("bad") cholesterol and preventing blood clots. There is also evidence to suggest that it improves immune function.
