Two Body Systems that May be helped by a High Methylation Diet

January 2012: Vol 7 No 1

There are two body systems that may be helped by a high methylation diet as follows:

The Renal System: The kidney’s are vital in eliminating undesirable things from the body. Since vascular diseases occur with higher than normal levels of homocysteine (HCY), it is natural that these high levels would affect the kidneys. There is evidence that high levels of homocysteine (HCY) can cause renal failure due to vascular involvement.

The Hematologic System: High levels of HCY may play a role in an increased propensity for blood to clot and to form loose clots known as thrombi that circulate through the blood vessels. When a thrombus tries to go through arterioles, capillaries, or a narrowing caused by arteriosclerosis, this can cause the blockage of the artery. Artery blockage leads directly to a fatal heart attack or stroke.

Some trivia information here may be helpful. We have been so long on one subject; I have probably made all of you couch potatoes. Did you know that some people have a genetic inclination to sit around a lot? Genetics control our brain functions, and for these people one of those functions is an urge to be seated more, so they have a higher tendency to be obese according to the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine. Some easy exercises to help would be to stand while folding laundry, do a lap around the house while the commercials are on, get up and dance to the catchy music of the commercials, stand while you are on the phone, call in your lunch order but walk to get it, or to set a timer, work for 20 minutes solid, then walk around the office and stretch for a few minutes. You will find that these simple things will add to your exercise program, which is also vital for improved health of not only body systems, but the total body health.

We will talk about a summary of methylation in our next issue, so watch for it.
