The Specific Uses of Minerals or Elements in the Body – Aluminum [Al]

December 2008: Volume 3 Number 12

Aluminum [Al] -- The total amount of aluminum in the body is about 50mg to 150mg. This element is the most abundant of all the metals and is widely distributed in plant and animal tissues. At high doses, it can interfere with the absorption of phosphates. The absorption of aluminum from the intestine is very poor and most of it is excreted in the feces even when there is a reasonably high intake. Any physiologically role is still obscure, but it is still used extensively in various gastric antacids, astringents, antiperspirants, deodorant and cosmetic preparations.

We will discuss Strontium (Sr) in our next lecture as a continuation of the specific uses of trace minerals or element in our bodies.
